When I got introduced to the ocean surfing, it all started with fun and excitement. You ride a board in the whitewaters, you pop up, you turn left & right, you fall, you get up,, you are happy, you are safe.

As I progressed further, my fear kicked in. I remember seeing huge waves crashing one after another. I didn’t go in the water during my first line-up day. I remember sitting at the beach and wondering will I overcome my fear? Will I ever be ready?

Well, here is the thing you’ll never be ready. Confidence needs to be built. That feeling doesn’t come out of nowhere. You need small steps that give you a feeling of progress & some control.

Ocean is unpredictable. And because of that you learn not just how to surf, you start developing an essential skill of staying calm during uncertainty. When waves come and depending of where you are in the water, you learn to act accordingly. Step by step of unfolding the knowledge you start building your confidence.

Here is another thing I discovered. Fear itself never leaves you completely, it just becomes part of your journey & takes different forms. You just embrace it with patience saying “I will learn how to manage you”. As you keep surfing, new scenarios unfold. I discovered that wave is not the biggest danger as oppose to your own board hitting you in the head. or other surfer accidentally striking you, or you falling on reefs. or unpleasant wipeouts. I mean every time there is something new. So you learn to keep your mind open, stay calm and learn as you go.

Learning to surf will be an ongoing process — cause the weather & water conditions are never the same, there will be new spots, new boards, you will grow as a surfer as well. I think that’s the beauty of it 🩵🤍

So I’m learning to go with the flow of the ocean 🌊🩵🤍 And always trying to stay safe🫶🏼 Because the good feelings you get on this journey are so much worth it.
